Kiknu, meaning “our home” in Mi’kmaq, is Nova Scotia’s first long term care home on a First Nation community. A residents-first approach to care and service will ensure Kiknu is supporting independence, promoting dignity, and placing value on the choices for how elders want to live their lives.
Shannex acts as the operating partner alongside the First Nations community of Eskasoni in the operation of this new home. Together, we will ensure the community delivers exceptional service and care while honouring Mi’kmaw culture, values, and traditions.
We are searching for a Community Manager - Temporary Full Time to join our Kiknu team based in Eskasoni, Nova Scotia.

About the Opportunity
As a member of the Kiknu Leadership team you will be providing oversight for the clinical team to ensure that the Elders of our Home receive the best possible culturally competent care. This position is Monday to Friday with regular business hours; occasionally there may be a requirement to attend outside of regular hours for events and emergencies. This rewarding opportunity encompasses the following duties, to name a few:
- Promotes an elder-directed philosophy by placing Elders first;
- Provides clinical leadership and oversight of the electronic documentation system;
- Promotes and maintains effective communication with all staff, residents, and family to support quality resident care and services by building trusted partnerships;
- Directs, promotes, and evaluates organizational standards, goals and objectives and policies to assure optimal level of care and services for residents and seeks opportunities to improve quality;
- Assures compliance with regulatory agencies;
- Establishes and maintains an organizational structure and professional model of practice that maintains effective communication, and clearly defines responsibility and accountability;
- Supports initial assessments of potential admissions in consultation with Licensed Staff;
- Provides consultation regarding resident issues and standards of care to nursing personnel and the interdisciplinary team;
- Encourages and promotes relationships with outside resources/organizations to meet elder and community needs;
- Manages the human resources activities of the community;
- Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures and best practices to ensure safe and efficient operation of the facility;
- Provides leadership to the team in the development and implementation of corrective action plans and assesses the effectiveness of corrective action plans.
About You
In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability, you bring:
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing and are currently registered with the Provincial Association of Registered Nurses
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills
- Advanced proficiency in the English language is required, proficiency in Mi’kmaq will be considered an asset
- Valid NS Drivers licence and access to transportation is a requirement of this position
- Ability to provide a CPR & Emergency First Aid Certificate, Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening upon hire
